"Ringtailed Lemur" in Scratchboard (12x16in)
This little fellow is from the million and one photos I took last year in a wildlife park in the UK. A very good artist friend of mine Karen Berisford and I went together and the absolute highlight was a walkthrough lemur enclosure which had 4 varieties of lemurs. We just loved hanging out in there... just being with these little guys and observing, and must admit we were the last ones to be booted out at closing time!!! This one is the Ring-tailed Lemur. Scratchboard is a masonite board, with a layer of white Kaolin Clay and a thin layer of black Indian Ink. It is then scratched or 'etched' with a variety of tools (mostly a #11 scalpel blade), to reveal the white of the clay.
"Ringtailed Lemur" received 3rd place in the 2012 Nelson Art Awards, and Runner-up in the Peoples Choice
