Scratchboard (artwork 8x8in, framed size 30x30cm)

A simple study of the beautiful male New Zealand Stitchbird. I loved the quirky pose of this little beautiful bird, and decided to leave it in monochrome, in real life he has black/white/yellow plumage and has a white ear tuft.
The reference photo was taken at Zealandia Eco Park, such a beautiful place to visit if you are in the region. You often see tuis and bellbirds up very close on the honey feeders. This is where I manage to get a lot of my closeup reference photography.
Currently being exhibited at the "Jewels of Zealandia" exhibition, Wellington, until November 28th 2020
Framed in a beautiful dark wooden moulding, with a black inner frame to set the artwork off further
Just after hanging the artworks at the "Jewels of Zealandia" exhibition
