The reference photo for this scratchboard artwork was taken at Skomer Island off the coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Home to
approximately 20,000 visiting Atlantic Puffins in the nesting season. Young Puffins are hardy little birds, living out the first 2-3 years of its life at sea. They return to the same birthplace, baffling scientists as to what navigation methods they use.

Close of the detailed scratch work. Tools included using tattoo needles, a #11 scalpel blade. This is then inked and rescratched, then inked again until the desired result.
