Wildlife paintings, portraits & pet portraits by New Zealand Artist Karen Neal

"Lone Wolf"

Pastel on Art Spectrum Colourfix paper, 390x530mm.

Working from a lovely reference photo from Emmanuel Keller of Switzerland, Tambako Photography on Flickr, thanks Tamby!

There is just something about wolves, amazingly misunderstood animals... hunted to almost extinction by humans. Wolves are elusive and only attack humans if feeling threatened. They are however inquisitive and will come close and watch you as you travel through their territory. They are beautiful, highly intelligent, very skillful hunters, but sadly very misunderstood animals.
Our domesticated dog is originated from a wolf.
