This is the biggest scratchboard I've attempted so far! This artwork is an exploration of "thinking outside the square",
with a quirky juxtaposed image of a zebra in a dress! I very much enjoyed creating this piece and think perhaps it could be my most favourite piece so far.
Closeup of the detailing of the scratchboard etching, using tattoo needles and #11 Exacto scalpel blade, and also a fibreglass brush
This artwork was created by photoshopping a combination of photos of a zebra taken at Auckland Zoo, and photos of my own zebra (synthetic) throw, combining these photos create the final composition for the artwork. I'm not entirely sure where the idea evolved from, but I love animal print materials and throws/pillows :-)
These are the 2 of the many original photos I worked from and photoshopped to find the composition I was happy with...
A photo of me beside with the framed artwork, simply to show you the scale of this piece, and a closeup of the lovely double frame, I felt the swirls of the beautiful inner frame went perfectly with the folds and contours of the zebra's dress.
Original Available (currently exhibited at Cinnamon House Design, Park Terrace, Blenheim).
